Ashaiman police arrest suspects

A 20-year-old mechanic apprentice  and his girl friend have been arrested by the Ashaiman police for possessing fire arms and ammunitions without lawful authority.

The suspects, Alex Agbedubu, 20, and Sala Mohammed, have been placed in police custody pending prosecution .

This follows an operation mounted by the  Ashaiman police to clamp down on criminals in the municipality and its environs .

The suspects were apprehended in a wooden kiosk at Newland at Ashaiman and had in their possession a pump action gun with 16 life cartridges, French-made automatic pistol with 47 rounds of bullets, two Honda portable generators and  a 32-inch plasma television

Speaking to the Daily Graphic at Ashaiman over the weekend, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Eklu, said on July 15, 2013, police mounted surveillance in the area in search of criminals, who had for sometime now been terrorising residents.

He said the suspects were apprehended during the search and when they were interrogated, they failed to disclose the source of the weapons and other items.

Chief Supt  Eklu said the suspects would be arraigned before court on a charge of possessing fire arms  and ammunition without lawful authority.
