Apprentice driver jailed for stealing

The Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, has sentenced a 20-year-old apprentice driver, Prosper Matey, to 48 months’ imprisonment.

Matey, who was charged for causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, and stealing, pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage but pleaded not guilty to the unlawful entry charge and that of stealing.

The police tendered in one mobile phone, a knife, and a bunch of keys as exhibits in court

Detective Inspector Tobias Amoadza, the prosecutor, said the complainant in the case was a banker at Aklomuase, a suburb of Odumase Krobo, while Matey, 20, was from Manyakpongunor, another suburb of Odumase Krobo.

He said on Friday August 9, 2013 at about 2:30 pm the complainant went to work at Asesewa while his wife attended antenatal care.

The prosecutor said Matey took advantage of the absence of the couple, destroyed a ventilation window at the back of the bathroom and entered the room.

He said Matey after entering the room searched through the belongings of the couple and found a mobile phone valued at GH¢250, one copper chain valued GH¢30 and one wrist watch valued at GH¢50.

The prosecutor said luck eluded Matey when the complainant’s wife returned from the hospital and caught him red-handed.

He said Matey upon hearing, the footsteps of the complainants wife in the house, ran to the window in order to jump but she had already alerted some neighbours who had taken position behind the window.
