The Aliu Mahama Foundation has organised a clean up exercise in the Yendi Municipality as part of efforts to promote cleanliness in the area.

The exercise, which begun at about 8:00 a.m started from the Yendi Municipal hospital through the Yendi Market to other principal streets and areas.

It forms part of activities organised and sponsored by the Aliu Mahama Foundation to mark the 37th birthday of Alhaji Farouk Mahama, the son of the later former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

Alhaji Farouk Mahama said the exercise was organised to honour his father's aim of campaigning against filth and insanitary practices in the country, particularly in the Northern Region.

He has therefore charged people in the country to make cleanliness part of their daily lives.

He said keeping the environment clean would help people to save money as monies, otherwise would have been spent on hospital bills due to insanitary environment related sickness, would be used for other purposes.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr Samuel K. Frimpong, said the rationale behind the exercise was to continue the legacy of the former vice president who campaigned strongly against filth and insanitary practices in the country.

He said the foundation would continue to embark on programmes to better the lives of people in the country, particularly those in the three regions of the north.

Dr Frimping said the Foundation has an objective "to effectively assist the society through greater discipline, in improving their performance and ensure efficient and accessible provision of health care service to the rural people."

The Aliu Mahama Foundation was set up to champion greater discipline in Ghana and deliver social responsibility services which will impact lives positively, particularly in the Northern sector and Ghana as a whole.
