Twenty thousand Ghana Cedis was disbursed, ranging from GH¢100.00 to GH¢1,000.00, while the assembly has also decided to hold GH¢5,000 as a reserve.

At  the ceremony, at Ve-Golokuati in the Volta Region, the Always Praising the Father (APF) Ministry, an NGO, supported the assembly with mobility gadgets  such as wheelchairs and walking sticks worth GH¢40,000  for distribution to those in need.

The Afadjato South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs Angela Alorwu-Tay, said it was the wish of the government that the PLWD should also be able to rub shoulders with society. That was why it was important to empower them to be able to live on their own.

Mrs Alorwu-Tay urged them to accept whatever they were given and rather use them profitably.

She advised parents not to keep their disabled children in the background but should rather give them the same serious care they gave their other children. "Who knows, they may become big women and men in future," she added

The distribution of the various amounts and mobility gadgets were done by Ms Delphine Yayra Pappoe, the Social Welfare Officer in charge of the PLWD.
