23 Teshie youth arrested for demonstrating without permit

The Teshie Police have arrested 23 youth for attempting to embark on a demonstration without permission.

The youth, dressed in red and black attire, were said to have converged on the Teshie Roundabout and attempted to demonstrate for the removal of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku, Mrs Benita Sena Okity-Duah.

According to the Accra Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Mr Freeman Tettey, the youth had accused Mrs Okity-Duah of underhand dealings resulting in the removal of Mr Daniel Amartey Mensah as the Chief Executive for the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly.

He said the youth had earlier stormed the MP’s house and issued a letter to her to contact the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and ensure the return of Mr Mensah as their MCE or face the wrath of the youth.

Mr Tettey said the youth, numbering about 40, took to their heels when they spotted the police but luck eluded some of them, leading to the arrest of the 23.

He said the police had intensified their patrols in the area to ensure calm.
