2 Bole-Bamboi terrorists captured

The police have captured two suspected armed robbers believed to be among a gang terrorising commuters on the Bole-Bamboi road in the Northern Region. The suspects, who are siblings, were arrested last Sunday and are in police custody in Tamale. They are Prince Lartey, 27, and Benjamin Asare, 24.

Among the items retrieved from the suspects were a single-barreled gun, 16 live cartridges, mobile phones and sharp implements, as well as a driving licence believed to belong to one of their victims.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ebenezer Tetteh, explained that the suspects, who were armed, blocked a portion of the road from Bole  to Kui, a mining community, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. last Sunday.

“They stopped all vehicles on the road, searched the passengers and robbed them of their valuables at gunpoint,” he indicated.

ASP Tetteh added that with the support of residents of the nearby Kabiama community, the robbers were subsequently apprehended and brought to Tamale.

According to him, “when the suspects were later questioned they admitted the offence. They are currently being prepared  for prosecution at the Tamale Circuit Court”.

ASP Tetteh entreated the general public to always volunteer information to the police to aid them in their efforts to clamp down on criminal activities in the region.
