Two of the accidents occurred at Disiga on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway and Kavia, near Walewale in the Northern Region, while one occurred in Cape Coast in the Central Region.

In one of the two accidents in the Northern Region, five  people died on the spot when the Benz bus on which they were travelling crashed into an articulated vehicle at Disiga last Friday.

The second accident, at Kavia yesterday, claimed four lives.

In the accident in Cape Coast, three people were killed when the saloon car in which they were travelling ran into an oncoming articulated truck on the stretch between the Ghana National College and Aggrey Memorial School.

From Tamale, Zakaria Alhassan reports that apart from the five people who died in the accident at Disiga, several other passengers who were injured are currently receiving attention at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The deceased, whose bodies have been deposited at the morgue of the hospital, included an 18-year-old second-year student of the Vittin Senior High School in Tamale, Ms Gifty Alaamisi Batang.

According to an eyewitness account, the accident occurred at Disiga along the highway  about 7:20 p.m. last Friday.

The bus, which was carrying the passengers on its way from Bolgatanga to Tamale, crashed into an articulated trailer that had been parked along the road without any warning signal.

On realising the effect of his carelessness, the driver of the articulated truck, with registration number GR 2585 A, is said to have bolted.

It took the efforts of some good Samaritans who arrived at the spot to gather the strewn bodies of the deceased and also rushed the injured to a nearby hospital at Savelugu before they were transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The second accident in the Northern Region occurred when an Urvan bus burst its front tyre, hit the embarkment of a bridge before running into a ditch.

In the end, four of the passengers died on the spot, while 15 others got injured. The dead are yet to be identified, while the injured are receiving attention at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

From Cape Coast, Shirley Asiedu-Addo reports that the three who died in the accident in Cape Coast have been identified as Joseph Mensah, the Manager of MTN in Cape Coast; Nana Yaw, who was said to be driving the car, and one Abigail.

According to an eyewitness account, the three had been at an MTN event at the Sizzler Restaurant in Cape Coast which had been organised as part of activities marking this year’s Fetu Afahye.

After the event, they decided to send their lady friend to Biriwa, near Cape Coast.

On reaching the stretch between Ghana National College and Aggrey Memorial School, the car veered from its lane into  the other and ran into an oncoming articulated truck.

The three died on the spot. Their remains have been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital.
