East Legon Police Commander, 4 others to face service enquiry

The East Legon Police Commander,  Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Emmanuel Basintale, and his four police accomplices are to face a police service enquiry for misconduct following their alleged involvement in a GH¢1.3 million gold deal.

The five, who were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, have been interdicted and are helping the police in their investigations.

Women urged to report problems in their breast early

The Chief Executive Officer of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, has lamented the fact that despite educational campaigns for women with problems in their breasts to report to the hospital early for attention, more people are reporting late, thereby developing advanced stages of breast cancer.

Investigation has begun into circumstances that led to the clash between students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and their counterparts from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

C4C Homeopathic Hospital introduces insurance scheme for clients

A private health facility, C4C Homeopathic Hospital, has launched a health insurance scheme to make homeopathic treatment easily accessible to the public. The scheme is aimed at encouraging the public to adopt the homeopathic system of treatment for all kinds of ailments at no cost.

Govt gives clearance for recruitment of health workers

Government has given clearance for the recruitment of nurses and other health professionals who were granted financial clearance in December 2016.

All regional directors of health have therefore been directed to begin the process of recruiting the professionals in line with their respective regional ceilings.

The recruitment exercise for the over 8000 health workers was halted in February over concerns regarding the financial clearance.

We want to build Ghana beyond aid — President

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated the government’s resolve to strengthen the private sector and build a Ghana beyond aid to engineer social and economic growth. He has also assured investors that neither his government nor his appointees are in office to compete with the private sector for business opportunities.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured investors, both domestic and foreign, that neither his government nor his appointees are in office to compete for business opportunities with the private sector.

According to the President, his administration is going to turn a new leaf in the way in which government and the private sector work, reiterating that “the private sector is not going to bring projects only for members of government and their cronies take over them.”

Ghana’s courier services attain international standards

Ghana's courier services have been placed at par with international standards following the introduction of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) as a component in processing courier services in the country.

The PAAR, which has also boosted government revenue, is an integrated system, which cuts down the human elements, processes and duration of post and cargo clearance in a transparent manner, which affords all stakeholders an opportunity to know and monitor every stage of the clearance process.

GHS sets up Call Desk Platform for tuberculosis

Two hundred and eighty six out of every 100,000 people tested in the country in 2016 were diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB).

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Linda Vanotoo, who disclosed this, said the situation was worrying.

Govt determined to support creative arts industry

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the government is determined to tap the full potential of the creative and performing arts industry to promote national development.

In furtherance of this, the government will promote the literary arts by encouraging Ghanaian writers and publishers to produce books that portray the country’s rich culture.

Steel factory shuts down due to high power tariffs

A steel factory in the Tema free zones enclave, Rider Steel Ghana Limited (RSGL), has been shut down due to what management describes as “high electricity tariffs.”

As a result, more than 350 workers of the factory have been laid off.

Kintampo waterfalls incident “very sad” – Mahama

Former president John Mahama has commiserated with the families of the victims of the Kintampo Waterfalls tragedy.

Eighteen people have been confirmed dead in the incident after trees fell on them following heavy rains on Sunday. The victims were mostly students from the Wenchi Senior High School.
