Don’t operate near Karpower Ship : Tema fishermen cautioned

The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr Richard Anamoo, has cautioned fishermen operating at the Tema Fishing Harbour not to get close to the Karpower Ship, a power barge situated within the harbour.

He has also appealed to the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) to sensitise artisanal fishermen not to carry out any repair or welding of fishing boats near the facility.

USAID provides 52 farmers with maize shellers

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided 52 farmers in the three northern regions with maize shellers and multipurpose crop thrashers to assist them in their farming activities.

The equipment formed part of efforts under the USAID’s Feed the Future (FTF) Ghana- Agricultural Technology Transfer (ATT) project to assist farmers in northern Ghana to adopt new agricultural technologies and mechanisation to increase their yields and income. It is expected that the increase in yield would help reduce poverty, and enable the country achieve food security.

Three former Wesley Girls’ students sweep WAEC awards

For the fourth time running, Ghana has swept all the three topmost awards of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Excellence Award instituted by the council.

All the three awardees and the Overall Best in the Business programme are former students of Wesley Girls’ Senior High School in the Central Region. They are Ms Jessica Ayeley Quaye, Ms Ruth Ewura-Ama Awadzi and Ms Danielle Amo-Mensah. The Overall Best in the Business programme is Ms Rebecca Gyamfi Koranteng. The only male, who picked the Overall Best in the General Arts programme, Mr John Kwadwo Owusu, is a product of Mfantsipim Senior High.

The University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom will on Friday hold a special convocation to confer on President John Dramani Mahama an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) (Honoris Causa), according to a statement issued by the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau.

The Lancaster University Ghana has launched its Law Week with a call on the students corps of the legal training institutions to aim at protecting, upholding and vindicating the justice system.

Students of Cape Coast Polytechnic have vowed to boycott lectures until some positive action is taken to include the institution in the first batch of polytechnics to be converted into technical universities.

A Gh¢310,000 clinic has been inaugurated at Gomoa Brofo in the Gomoa West District to cater for the health needs of the people in the area and surrounding communities.

‘No deal with Smarttys in $92m electrification project’

The government has refuted claims by the Minority in Parliament that it has entered into a deal with Smarttys Management and Production Limited over the $92-million electrification project.

According to the Deputy Minister of Power, Mr John Jinapor, the commercial agreement entered into was not with Smarttys but rather with the China Hunan Construction Engineering Group.

Shutdown of FPSO Kwame Nkrumah: Ministry takes steps to mitigate impact of power shortage

The Ministry of Power has assured the public that measures have been put in place to mitigate the impact on power supply during the shutdown of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

As part of the measures, it said, arrangements had been made to purchase light crude oil to power some of the thermal plants within the Aboadze power enclave in the Western Region.

Smarttys pays second instalment of refund

Smarttys Management and Production Limited says it has paid the second instalment of the refunds in connection with the rebranding of 116 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses by the Ministry of Transport.

A letter signed by the lawyer for Smarttys Management and Production Limited, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, said seven hundred thousand cedis (GH¢700,000) was paid on February 25, 2016.

GRIDCo adjudged Best Power Transmission Company in West Africa

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has been adjudged the best power transmission company in West Africa at the 12th edition of the West African Power Industry Convention (WAPIC) awards ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria recently.

GRIDCo beat competition from six other transmission companies across the ECOWAS sub-region to emerge the overall winner in the Excellence in Power Transmission and Distribution category.

Fast-track investigations into death of paramount chief: Regent of Nanumba appeals

The Regent of the Nanumba Traditional Area in the Northern Region, Nyeliboligu-Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana II, has appealed to the government to fast-track investigations into the death of the Paramount Chief of the area, Naa Dasana Andani.

Two years ago, the Overlord of the Nanumba Traditional Area was murdered by some unknown assailants in his palace at Bimbilla and the government promised to investigate the matter to bring the perpetrators to book but nothing has been heard about the issue.

African agric chief directors confer in Accra

A two-day meeting of chief directors of agriculture ministries in Africa on a Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and agricultural transformation has been held in Accra.

It was a precursor to a major conference of African agricultural technocrats on the development of the agricultural sector to be held in April.
