‘Incorporate local culture into Cambridge International curriculum’

The Chief Executive Officer of the North Legon Little Campus, Mr Douglas Djarbeng has urged schools running the Cambridge International Curriculum in Ghana to be flexible enough to incorporate Ghanaian culture into their syllabus.

According to him, provision was made for the introduction and inclusion of local content into the British Curriculum Programme which had been adopted by many schools in Ghana and other West African countries, yet some of the schools concentrated more on teaching foreign content at the expense of the Ghanaian culture.

Aayalolo buses to run Adentan, Kasoa routes soon

Commuters who ply the Adentan and Kasoa routes will soon enjoy the Aayalolo bus service. This is because the ministries of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and Transport are preparing to roll out the service by the end of the year.

A statement signed by the Chief Director of the MLGRD, Mr C.K. Dondieu, said a total of 85 buses had been allocated for the Adentan-Accra Central Business District (CBD), while “a set of buses are also expected to begin operations on the Kasoa to Tudu corridor.

The Minister of National Security, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, has cautioned Ghanaian youth who are desirous of studying abroad, particularly in Eastern European countries, to be wary of individuals who pose as agents of universities in those countries.

Prisoner education in limbo - No progress for inmates who excel in exams

The fate of inmates at the various prisons who take part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) continue to remain in limbo because the law does not guarantee that they could continue to higher education even after passing their examinations.

‘Transfer tier-two pension funds or face our wrath’

The Forum for Public Sector Registered Pension Schemes has given the government up to July 31, 2017 to resolve all outstanding issues concerning the deduction and investment of the tier-two pension scheme or face its wrath.

It accused the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) of failing to inform the government about the accurate indebtedness to the various schemes as per the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766) as amended by the National Pensions Act, 2014 (Act 883).

Deal with security threats to avoid escalation - Discussants urge African govts

A conference to discuss security and development challenges in Africa, particularly the rising issue of terrorism has been held in Accra with a call for urgent attention to the menace to prevent its escalation.

The Organisation and Security Group of Africa (GSGA) organised the event which created the platform for security and governance experts to dialogue on the way forward for Africa in terms of addressing development issues.

Passengers injured in Medie Junction accident

A number of passengers sustained injuries in a multiple accident at Medie Junction in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region yesterday.

An Nsawam-bound tipper truck loaded with sand is reported to have rammed into a Sprinter bus with 19 passengers, which also ran into a Toyota Hiace bus with 13 passengers.

Resolve chieftaincy disputes in the interest of peace - Justice Crabbe admonishes Ga traditional leaders

A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice VCRAC Crabbe, has asked traditional leaders in the Ga state to take steps to resolve chieftaincy disputes within the state in the interest of peace and development.

He said the continued presence of such difficulties derailed development in the Ga state and hindered national progress.

Teshie launches rebranded Homowo

The people of Teshie in Accra, have held a ceremony in the town to launch a rebranded version of their annual Homowo Festival expected to be celebrated in August this year.

Homowo is celebrated by the Ga people to commemorate their relief from hunger on their arrival in the Gold Coast after a sojourn in Ille Ife in Nigeria many centuries ago.

Panelists at the 4th Tech 360 Africa Summit held in Accra on Thursday have unanimously agreed that the technology space in Africa holds an outstanding promise and will require stakeholders in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) to pursue the technology market in order to accelerate Africa's development efforts.

Court condemns police brutalities against accused persons

The Accra Central District Court has strongly condemned the blatant brutalities meted out by the police to eight people who are standing trial for their alleged involvement in highway robberies across the country.

The court said such brutalities and the manner in which the police forced the accused persons to carry guns to be paraded for their photos to be taken and published in a newspaper amounted to gross human rights violation.

IGP places Ghc10,000 bounty on Lapaz police killers

The police have placed a Ghc10,000 bounty on the two suspects who shot and killed a police officer and injured another one at Lapaz in Accra on Thursday.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Mr David Asante Apeatu, anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the two suspects would be given the bounty.
