Outgoing CID boss speaks; accuses Kan Dapaah and Ken Agyapong for removal

The outgoing Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr Bright Oduro has broken his silence on the directive for him to proceed on leave prior to retirement on January 3, 2018 and says he has unfairly been pushed out of the Police Service.

Mr Bright Oduro was appointed as CID boss in January 2017 at the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) and was recently promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP).

Agric students boycott school to protest restoration of allowances

Authorities of the Kwadaso College of Agriculture (KAC) has bemoaned the decision by the student’s body to boycott lectures to mount pressure on government trainee allowances.

The students have since last Friday boycotted lectures with most of leaving school thus throwing off the school calendar.

A Ghanaian asylum seeker accused of raping a German woman while forcing her boyfriend to watch has been branded a danger to society by a psychiatric expert in Bonn, Germany.

The man - only identified as Eric X - is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman after spotting the couple camping in a nature reserve near Bonn, West Germany in April.

EOCO arrests two persons for alleged romance fraud

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested two Ghanaians for allegedly engaging in trade-based money laundering and romance fraud.

The suspects, Moro Musah and Sabina Adzre are said to have worked with a UK-based accomplice, Opoku Agyeman to scam over 16 British nationals of about £5 million.

They were arrested on Tuesday after a year-long investigation by security agencies in Ghana and UK.

The Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has stated that plans are afoot for the establishment of three development authorities, including the coastal development authority.

He said the coastal development authority would assist the four coastal regions, namely: Volta, Greater Accra, Central and Western regions, to boost the local economies of those areas, while creating employment to improve their quality of life.

The Water Research Institute (WRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is engaging people in coastal communities to make seaweed cultivation an economic venture.

Under a five-year project dubbed the ‘SeaBioGha’, the initiative focuses on establishing relevant technology for seaweed processing and developing local know-how for its farming.

GIFMIS to be implemented in all MMDAs by March 2018

The Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) will be implemented in 156 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) across the country latest by March, 2018, the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, has announced.

Drug barons, armed robbers busted

A syndicate of drug dealers and armed robbers that has been on the police wanted list for three years has been busted at Baatsona in Accra.

Five of the suspects who are armed robbers and said to be the gang behind a number of criminal activities, including rape and murder at Baatsona and its surrounding communities, have been arrested at their hideouts at Lashibi.

Kwadaso Agric College students boycott lectures

Students of the Kwadaso College of Agriculture (KAC) have abandoned the campus to protest the non-restoration of their trainee allowance.

The students had since October 13, 2017 boycotted lectures, with most of them packing out of campus.

LPG produced by Ghana Gas is safe — CEO

The Ghana Gas Company has debunked rumours that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) produced from natural gas from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is of a low quality and, therefore, stands a higher risk of exploding.

It also refuted allegations by some stakeholders that the low quality of the LPG from the company triggered the recent gas explosion at the Atomic junction at Madina in Accra.

Govt should support herbal medicine plantations — Prof. Bosompem

The Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), Professor Kwabena Bosompem, has called on the government and the Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) to encourage the cultivation and planting of medicinal plants.

He said the cultivation of medicinal plants, apart from contributing huge revenues to the country, would help protect and conserve rare medicinal plants.

Task force on pirated textiles is stillborn — Koomson

The General Secretary of the Textiles, Garments and Leather Employees Union (TGLEU), Mr Abraham Koomson, has described the task force that was reconstituted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to fight piracy in the textile industry as stillborn.

The reconstituted task force, among others, is charged to increase monitoring at the country’s borders, particularly the eastern border at Aflao, to prevent the illegal importation of pirated textiles.

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Mohammad Haroon, says the idea that the girl- child should not go to school is a reason why child marriage is rife in the three northern regions.
