Word of Life Christian Centre dedicates church building

Word of Life Christian Centre has dedicated its Cathedral of Hope Chapel to God to climax the 30th-anniversary celebration of the church.

Speaking at the dedication service, the Founder and Head Pastor of the church, Rev Dr Isaac Quaye, said the church which started from a humble beginning in 1987 had grown by leaps and bounds.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday presented the 2018 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

The 2018 Budget themed “Putting Ghana back to work” is informed by President Akufo-Addo’s coordinated programme for economic and social development policies which aims at creating a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive, propel growth and create employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

The government has reviewed electricity tariffs downwards in the 2018 budget and economic policy statement.

Average residential consumers are expected to witness a 13 per cent reduction in tariffs when government's recommendation to the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) as per the law, is approved.

There were sporadic gunshots in Yunyoo in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District in the Northern Region Wedmesday mording over disagreements on the proposed siting of the new district to be created out of the existing Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District.

No taxes on mobile money transactions – Gov’t

A Deputy Information Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has said government has no intention to tax the mobile money sector now.

Denying assertions by the Minority in Parliament that mobile money transactions would be taxed according to the 2018 Budget statement, Mr Oppong-Nkrumah said that the government has no such intentions and that the budget statement did not capture that claim.

GIPC partners SADA to transform authority into investment hub

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) to transform the authority into a strategic hub for development.

The agreement between the two state entities will see the GIPC offer technical support to SADA to explore investment opportunities to promote development in the northern sector of the country.

Govt aims at 6.8% growth in 2018

The government is aiming to grow the economy by 6.8 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) by the end of next year.

The growth target is to be announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, on Wednesday when he appears before Parliament to present the government’s budget and economic policy statement for 2018.

Govt signs agreement for gas transfer

The government has signed a tie-in agreement with the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) for the reverse flow of gas from the Western Region to Tema.

Under the agreement, the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) pipeline in Aboadze in the Western Region will be tied in with that of the WAGP to make it possible for gas transmission to fire thermal units in Tema.

Tears flow for murdered pastor

Some family and church members of the murdered 64-year-old Head Pastor of the End Time Bible Believers Fellowship in Tamale, Pastor Ebenezer Ocran, could not hold back their tears in court when his alleged murderers appeared before the Tamale District Court on Tuesday.

Those who could be heard weeping loudly in the courtroom were escorted outside by the policemen deployed on the court premises to provide security.

There were murmurings and screams of “oh why, oh why” when the first accused, Dogyi Kwame, 28, responded in the affirmative to a question by the presiding magistrate, Mr Anthony Asaah, if he (accused) had killed the pastor.

Govt places temporary ban on petroleum contract negotiations

The government has placed a temporary ban on the award of fresh petroleum contracts until requisite regulations that will allow for an open and competitive bidding processes are enacted.

It is expected that the regulations will be passed by the middle of next year to usher in an era of competitive bidding for oil contracts.

Ghana to increase power supply to Burkina Faso

Ghana has agreed to increase its power supply to Burkina Faso from 9.2 megawatts to 100 megawatts by 2018.

The move follows advanced cooperation between the two West African countries to ensure the completion of the Ouagadougou-Bolgatanga Power Interconnection Supply project.

President opens The Octagon

The Octagon, a multipurpose office complex, was yesterday inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

A circuit court judge in Wa has appealed to traditional rulers to uphold justice and fairness in the discharge of their duties towards their people.

Mr Forson Baah Agyapong said adherence to those principles in traditional rule could cure many of the ills that afflicted the society, and instead inject a sense of trust and responsibility among society.

Akufo-Addo cuts sod for Appolonia's $45,000 starting price houses

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for the construction of 2,000 affordable housing units at Appolonia City, near Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region.

The construction of the first 100 houses is scheduled to begin right after the sod-cutting ceremony. Prices for the housing units start from USD$45,000.

GMA calls for implementation of conditions of service

The new executive of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has threatened to embark on a series of actions that will affect the provision of health services if the government does not fully implement their conditions of service.

The doctors, who gave an April 2018 ultimatum, said the only thing that would stop their action would be the full implementation of the conditions of service and market premium, together with the related matters of conversion differences and reduced pensions.
