Prosecution ready to try 32 alleged killers of Major Mahama

The prosecution in the case of the lynched Major Maxwell Adam Mahama says it is ready to prosecute 32 out of the 58 accused persons arraigned so far.

The 26 others were discharged by the court but immediately rearrested by the police as investigations continue into their alleged involvement.

Ghana to lose $500 million for failing to combat human trafficking

Ghana stands the risk of losing the $500 million dollars grant from the Millennium Development Co-operation Challenge Account for failing to fight human trafficking, United States Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Robert Porter Jackson, has disclosed.

Ambassador Jackson said the Department of State’s 2016 Trafficking in Persons Report ranked Ghana as a Tier Two Watch List country for the second year running.

Properties of Nayele, others given to charity

Ghana School of Law supports galamsey fight

The Ghana School of Law has pledged to cooperate with the Attorney-General and other stakeholders in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

GRA declares Roland Agambire wanted for defaulting tax

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has declared the Chairman of Agams Group of Companies, the Mr Roland Agambire, a wanted man.

This, is because according to the GRA, one of the subsidiaries of AGAMS Group, ACI Construction Company has evaded corporate tax and VAT amounting to GH₵14,312,974.19.

The assets retrieval task-force on Wednesday morning picked five vehicles said to belong to the state at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

NACOB donates Nayele assets to orphanage

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has donated some items seized from Nayele Ametefe, the Ghanaian/Austrian drug baron to three institutions - an orphanage and two rehabilitation centres in Ghana.

The items including furniture were seized from Night Angels, a shop which belonged to Nayele. The items were on Wednesday morning presented to the three centres at Korle Bu, Ashaiman and Medie.

Supreme Court asks NIB not to pay $60million judgement debt to Dominion Trustees

The Supreme Court has asked the National Investment Bank (NIB) not to pay the $60million judgment debt the High Court in Accra asked it to pay Dominion Corporate Trustees Limited in 2013.

The Commercial Division of the High Court, presided over by Mr Justice Amadu Tanko, on February 21, 2013, gave judgement against NIB in favour of Dominion Corporate Trustees Limited of Channel Islands, UK, for the recovery of the sum of US$60 million, plus interest, with effect from January 29, 2009, to the date of final payment.

GRA storms 4 companies to demand taxes

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday stormed the offices of four companies in an effort to compel them to settle their tax indebtedness to the state.

The companies were Vodafone Ghana Limited, ACI Construction, a subsidiary of the Agams Group of Companies, which is indebted to the state in the sum of GH¢14,312,974; Eagle Star Enterprise Limited, an engineering and construction firm that owes GH¢604,175, and Logistics Supplies Services Limited, which owes GH¢460,779.

"Our parents cannot afford to buy sanitary pads for us which cost GH¢5 per pack and so some of us often wear between three or four panties as our pads; at times we use old clothes in the house after we have washed them as our sanitary pads during menstruation." These are the words of Amina Imoro, 14, a Junior High School (JHS) One student of Sayoo E/A JHS and Baba Salamatu, 15, a JHS One pupil of the Loagri-Kukua JHS, both in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.

The girls recounted their pathetic experiences in an interview with the Daily Graphic at Wulugu about the fact that their parents did not have the money to purchase sanitary pads for them every month.
