Values For Life Ghana marks International Literacy Day

Values For Life Ghana (VLF-Ghana), a non-governmental organisation, has called on the general public to support social systems that improve the lives of children, youth and women in the society.

The call comes at the time when the world marked International Literacy Day last Saturday; a day set aside by UNESCO to raise awareness on issues that border on adult and child literacy and highlight the changes and improvements being made worldwide in literacy development.

This year’s theme for the day was “Literacy and Skills Development” and VFL-Ghana which is focused on championing the cause of literacy and skills development believes that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which seeks to mobilise efforts to eradicate poverty can only be achieved if opportunities are created for all.

In view of that, the organisation has set up two community libraries, organized annual reading clinics and teaches skills such as painting, basket weaving, batik, tie and dye, beading works and soap making to afford opportunities to the less endowed.

“VFL-Ghana joins its partners in promoting Literacy and Skills Development, the Ghana Education Service, American Embassy in Ghana, Ghana Culture Forum, Promasidor Ghana Limited, Young Educators Foundation, 40Roses Foundation, Autism Ambassadors of Ghana, Obaapa Foundation and African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network (AQWCLN) to wish you all a successful International Literacy Day celebrations,” a statement from the organisation said.
