Tullow Ghana constructs assembly hall for Half Assini SHS
The lead operator of the Jubilee and TEN oil fields, Tullow Oil Ghana, has handed over a newly constructed 1,500-capacity assembly hall complex to the Half Assini Senior High School (SHS) in the Jomoro District in the Western Region.
The project, which was funded from Tullow’s social investment budget, began in October 2015 and was completed in the last quarter of 2017.

Assembly hall
The ground floor of the facility has two offices, changing rooms for males and females, adjoining washrooms, a control room and two storerooms.
The first floor of the assembly hall has four offices and a seating area to serve as a venue for writing school and national examinations such as the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Commitment
The Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, Mr Kweku Awotwi, said the company was committed to education in the country, especially in the Western Region which formed part of its operational areas.
“As part of our social investment programme, Tullow is making additional investment in Science, Technology, Education and Technology (STEM) to support the government’s future industrialisation agenda,” he stated.
For his part, the Director of Exploration and Development at Tullow, Nana Appia Kyei, said the company had supported education since it began operations in 2007, adding that: “As a company, we are keenly aware of the legacy that a good education delivers for the country’s development.”
Scholarships
According to Nana Kyei, “Tullow’s scholarships granted from the basic to tertiary level, infrastructure support such as science laboratories at schools like Archbishop Porter Girls and Asuansi Technical Institute and a dormitory block for Axim Girls’ SHS are all beneficial to the Ghanaian youth”.
Maintenance
Nana Kyei also called for the regular maintenance of the facility. “Tullow Ghana urges that the facility be maintained to serve its purpose,” he stated.
He commended the immediate past Headmaster of the school, Mr Kodwo Edjah, who he said played an instrumental role in the execution of the project.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwaku Tsikata, expressed appreciation to Tullow Ghana for the gesture and gave an assurance that the facility would be put to good use.
He mentioned other challenges the school faced, which include the lack of a decent girls’ dormitory, limited classrooms and a dining hall to contain all the students.
