Takoradi Technical University inaugurates Appeals Board
The Takoradi Technical University has inaugurated an Appeals Board to help in dispute resolution in the university
The board which is chaired by Justice Stephen Herbert Ocran, a retired High Court Judge will assist and direct the path of the Council, Management and the Academic Board of the university as it seeks to build effective and efficient pillars of growth for the university.
Other members of the board are Lawyer Kwamina Ollenu Amponsah-Dadzie a legal practitioner, Nana Yamfua Amua-Sekyi, Madam Margaret Boadiwaa Lemaire and chief of Effia Nana Brempong Yaw V.
The inauguration of the board is in accordance with provisions in the Technical University Act 922.
Inaugurating the board, the Council Chairperson, Dr Henrietta Abane indicated that the board would, among other things, act on matters bordering on acts of omission in conventions with the TU Act and the statutes and breach of employment contracts.
Others responsibilities according to her included promotion of persons duly employed as well as grievances by staff and students relating to welfare and disciplinary issues.
Dr Mrs Abane charged the board to be diligent, fair and firm in its decision regardless of the persons involved.
She revealed that the university entrusted supreme confidence in the abilities and capabilities of members of the board and expressed the hope that they would bring their varied expertise to bear on their work in order to build a university of repute in the country.
Readiness to work
For his part, the Chairman of the board, Justice Ocran assured the council that members of the board would work to uphold the Constitution, the TU Act and the Statutes of the university to bring peace and to the university community.
He called on the council to intensify education on the various sources of documents governing the university in order to avert unnecessary litigation.
Justice Ocran also pledged the support of his colleagues in the discharge of their duties.
