Sensitisation workshop for BECE candidates

The SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana, in collaboration with Ablekuma South Sub-Metro, has organised a sensitisation workshop for junior high school (JHS) students to learn how to solve examination questions during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which begins today.

The workshop was to encourage the candidates to focus on their studies and avoid examination malpractices.

At the sensitisation workshop held in Accra, the Circuit Supervisor of the Korle Gonno Cluster of Schools, Mr Daniel Koi Larbie, advised the children not to panic but relax and focus on what they had learnt.

He said, “Many at times students who are not well prepared during examinations panic when the question paper is in front of them and I, therefore, urge all students to study hard to avoid this shame.

“I also advise you to learn hard, be prepared and pass all your exams in order to attend free senior high school (SHS) and not be stranded looking for schools,” he added.

Advice

For her part, the Guidance and Counselling coordinator for Ablekuma South Sub-Metro, Madam Mercy Onwona, advised the students to prepare themselves to boost their confidence during the examination.

She said students must avoid sending any foreign materials, including mobile phones, note books and writing answers on their body to the exams hall.

“For now students should do away with their mobile phones, tablet, watching television, playing games and focus on their studies to pass once and for all,” she said.

Objectives

The Project Coordinator, Quality Education Now, Chorkor initiative, Ms Sheila Botwe, said their objective was to help the final year students prepare adequately for their first external examination.

She said it was also to allow them to ease tension and fear over the rumours they might have heard with respect to the BECE.

Motivating the candidates, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South, Dr Alfred Okoe Vandapuije, advised them to remain focused when writing their exams.

He, therefore, encouraged them to study hard, avoid bad friends and aim high to achieve their dreams for the betterment of their future.
