Nominations for 2019 Global Teacher Prize ends on September 9
Nominations for the 2019 Global Teacher Prize which started on June 18 comes to an end on Sunday, September 9, 2018
Varkey Foundation, an educational charity, the annual awards which is held Dubai rewards one outstanding teacher with US$1 million.
Last year, Andria Zafirakou from the United Kingdom (UK) was given the prestigious awards at a highly event.
In a statement released recently, she called on more Ghanaian teachers to apply for the award
Since its inception in 2015, Professor Sitsofe Enyonam Anku, a mathematics teacher at Meagasa Mathematics Academy, Lashibi, Accra, is the only Ghanaian shortlisted for the having been selected from over 30,000 applicants worldwide.

“If Ghanaian teachers apply, or are nominated and then apply, they could be potentially shortlisted as Top 50 candidates later in the year and their inspirational stories publicised, helping to raise the bar of respect for the profession,” the statement said.
How to apply
The prize is open to teachers who teach children that are in compulsory schooling, or are between the ages of five and 18. Teachers must spend at least 10 hours per week teaching children and plan to remain in the profession for the next five years. It is open to teachers in every kind of school and, subject to local laws, in every country in the world.
Applications received from across the world will be shortlisted down to a Top 50, which is expected to be announced in December this year.
By February 2019, a final Top 10 will be announced, with the eventual winner chosen from the 10 shortlisted.
All 10 finalists will be flown to Dubai for an award ceremony which will take place at the Global Education and Skills Forum in March 2019, where the winner will be announced.
The winner of the 2019 Global Teacher Prize will be awarded US$1 million cash prize.
