Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited under its corporate social responsibility wing, Resolute Foundation Advisory Panel, has offered scholarship to 22 brilliant and needy students within its catchment areas.

The beneficiaries comprise nine continuing students and 13 fresh students pursuing various courses at the tertiary level.

The mining firm which is yet to begin operations is spending GH¢75,000 on the students which is an improvement of last year’s GH¢35,000 doled out on its maiden edition of the Education Financial Assistance scheme last year.

The ultimate aim is to build a strong and educated workforce mostly with a background in mining engineering to promote its local content policy.

Kunkyebe

The General Manager of Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited, Bennett Kunkyebe, said the award of scholarship fell under the company’s four main thematic areas, which are health, water and sanitation and income generating activities.

He said education was the pillar of any society and the key to growing and developing the economy  as such the students should not  disappoint their parents.

Already, the first batch of 10 students who were supported last year, are said to be excelling at the tertiary which Mr Kunkyebe said had propelled the company to do a lot more for its people.

He urged parents not to relent on their basic responsibilities to support the company in raising an educated and a well-informed society.

MD

The Managing Director, Mr Duncan Fairlie, assured the families of the beneficiaries that irrespective of the fact that the company was yet to begin production, it was committed to honouring its corporate social responsibility.

He said he was encouraged that females were competing favourably with their male counterparts which painted a bright future for Ghana’s population.

Mr Fairlie announced that the company had put in place measures to sustain the programme and even expand it to embrace every brilliant and needy child in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District.

MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive of the district, Mr Alfred Amoah, called on the students to work hard and make the district proud.

He said  the assembly was also offering minimal assistance to help alleviate the stress people went through to  make a living.

Chairman

The Chairman of the Resolute Foundation and the Financial Controller of the firm, Isaac Osei Yeboah, congratulated the students who were all males and one female who all  attained As.

They were selected from three traditional areas Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Sankore and the Nkawie Stool.
