Make school environment academically friendly — Nana Kropa

Apemanimhene, Nana Fobi Kropa III,  has stressed the need for the pooling of resources to make the school environment more academically friendly.

The chief, known in private life as Professor Kwesi Ansu-Kyeremeh, a Professor at the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, was speaking at a durbar held by the people of Apemanin in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District to raise funds for the construction of a new classroom block for the local junior high school (JHS).

An amount of GH¢4,215.00 was realised to support the project, which is being undertaken through the payment of special levies and free labour by the citizens.

Nana Kropa said the critical importance of education in the fight against poverty, sexually transmitted diseases, maternal and child mortality must not be lost on anyone, and urged parents to cut down on frivolous spending to save enough money to take care of the basic school needs of their children.

He said premium should be put on education to equip the youth with skills that would enable them to survive the growing competition of globalisation, and stressed that it is also the way to ensure transparency, stability and wage a war on  corruption.

He added that toying with education could be too costly and should be avoided.

A former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, commended the community for their self-help spirit and initiative.

He used the occasion to remind parents about the need to live up to their responsibilities and blamed the rising indiscipline, immorality and crime rates on child neglect.

They need to ensure stability of marriages to bring down the incidence of single parenting and its associated evils.

Mr Adjei-Darko expressed concern about the refusal of some men to accept responsibility after impregnating their concubines and said that it was a contributory factor for the indiscipline in society.

He also advised the children to study hard since that was the path to success in life.

Educational materials were presented to some selected schoolchildren for their punctuality and good academic performance.— GNA
