Mr Peter Kutufam, the President of the association, made the call at the NUYYA Easter Quiz organised for basic schools in the Somanya Circuit as part of the Easter festivities at Somanya.

He said if care was not taken, posterity would hold them responsible for not giving the youth quality formal education that would be their working tool.

He said the level of education in the area was a worry to all well-meaning Yilo Krobo citizens, saying it was against that background that NUYYA started with the quiz to boost the morale of students in basic schools.

The association presented GH¢1,000 to the Klo-Agogo Senior High School for the drilling of a borehole to ease the acute water problem facing it.

At the end of the programme, Somanya Sra Presby JHS came first with 38 points, while Somanya St. Peter’s Catholic JHS placed second with 36 points. Somanya Methodist JHS, Somanya

Al-Hidiyya JHS, Somanya Presby JHS No. 1, Somanya Presby JHS No. 2 and Yilo State JHS placed third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh with 25, 24, 21, 17 and 16 points, respectively.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr  Andrews Sodah, commended the association for its activities that would go a long way to promote education in the area.

He said the assembly also put in measures to promote quality education, and called on other organisations and societies in Yilo Krobo to follow suit.

Nene Akpatsu Aza V, a traditional ruler, on behalf of the chiefs, commended NUYYA for its laudable initiatives and pledged the chiefs’ support to the total development of the area.

The Headmaster of the Klo-Agogo SHS, Mr. Osei Ampon, expressed gratitude to the association for the assistance and called on other organisations for more assistance.

The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Theresa Adarkwah, said the education of children in the area was a shared responsibility and called for more interventions from groups and organisations, both home and abroad.
