KETABUSCO to launch school transformation fund

The President of the Keta Business College (KETABUSCO) Old Students Association (KEBSOSA), Dr Seth Kwami Anani, says the association will launch an Endowment Fund to transform the school.

The fund, to be known as "The Game Changer" is one of the four pillars of the transformational agenda aimed at moving the school from its current category “B” status to “A” in few years.

Speech and Prize-giving Day

Dr Anani disclosed this during the Speech and Prize-giving Day at the school premises in the Keta municipality in the Volta Region.

The event, which celebrated deserving teachers and students with awards, was chaired by Mr Godwin K. Ahadzi, the owner of Agblor Lodge, and attended by some KETABUSCO old students (Coronats), including the 2018 Best Teacher Prize winner, Mr Nicholas Mawunya Gborse, some former headmasters, representative of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and government officials.

For the awardees, 27 students each from Forms Two and Three received various awards in addition to the best male and female students in WASSCE results, who also received awards.

Aside from the 56 students, four teaching and two non-teaching staff members were also awarded.

Evidence

Dr Anani named the other pillars of the fund as organisation and membership development; marketing, communication with emphasis on branding; education and training.

“The evidence of this strategy is all around us; (credit to our predecessors and the government), the school gate that we inaugurated today, the walls around the school, the multi-million headmaster’s bungalow, the new classroom blocks, dormitories and the ongoing assembly and dining hall units (to be completed soon).

“The most important thing under this pillar is the Endowment Fund to be launched soon, tagged 'the Game Changer' which is to provide counterpart funding to the old students to access bigger projects in the future," Dr Anani stated.

He enumerated the contributions the association made, as well as future plans for the progress of the school, which would turn 80 next year.

The president, therefore, called on all stakeholders, especially Coronats, to support the agenda which he explained was “a movement that changes even our internal perspective and redefines our focus of who we are, where we come from and where we want to go.”

Indiscipline

Speaking on the theme for the celebration: “Indiscipline – The Bane of Academic Excellence”, the Headmaster of KETABUSCO, Mr Etse Seake-Kwawu, cautioned students against indiscipline saying, “Academic excellence can only be achieved through discipline.”

According to him, it took discipline for a person endowed with innate capabilities to progress, especially in the contemporary era where the youth were exposed to lots of negative influences.

Mr Seake-Kwawu commended the old students and the board of governors of the school and all those who had supported the school in many ways.

The headmaster, however, called for continued support from the old students and other stakeholders to address the inadequate school infrastructure such as a library, science laboratory, vocational centre for Home Economics and Visual Art programmes, information and communications technology (ICT) laboratory and staff accommodation.

The Volta Regional Director of Education, Mrs Enyonam Amafuga, advised students to be disciplined and studious in their quest for academic excellence.

She also appealed to parents to support their children with their needs to help achieve their goals.
