Ho Technical University warns fresh students against indiscipline
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Ho Technical University (HTU), Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, has cautioned fresh students against acts of indiscipline on campus, warning that the school authorities will not hesitate to dismiss such students when they are caught.
At the 26th matriculation of the HTU, Prof. Honyenuga stated that the university would not countenance acts of gross indiscipline such as physical assault, stealing, use of drugs, engaging in occultism, homosexuality and sexual assault, among other vices, that would tarnish the hard earned reputation of the institution.
According to him, it was important for the students to distance themselves from all forms of destructive behaviour because they would be solely held accountable for their actions and inaction.
Face the laws of Ghana
“Being a student at the university does not exempt you from the laws of Ghana, and the university will not hesitate to hand over any student who is involved in any criminal activity to the law enforcement agencies,” he said.
He advised that students with certain habits and peculiar negative character to quit or consult the counselling unit for assistance.
He said the university abhorred examination malpractice, warning that “the quickest way to get oneself thrown out of the university is to engage in such behaviour.”
This year, the university granted admission to 1,446 applicants— 819 males and 627 females—to pursue various Non-Tertiary, HND and B.Tech programmes.
Encouragement
Prof. Honyenuga encouraged the students to do their best while pursuing their various programmes, saying “you should consider your admission to HTU as an achievement in your academic life” and adding that the university would effectively equip them with requisite employable skills and the necessary expertise for their personal and national development.
“Be creative, share knowledge and skills with good people around you. Challenge yourself and peers with new ideas on daily basis”, he added.
On behalf of his colleagues, a first-year student offering Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mr Charles Mawunyo Agbotse, assured the university that they would do their best to be law abiding and to protect and defend the institution and build on the achievements of their predecessors.
He asked for a conducive environment for learning and also for the institution to introduce direct and top-up degree programmes that would be more practical and skilled based “so we can create jobs for ourselves and others after graduating.”
