Health training institutions appeal for GETFund support

The Principal of Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Mr Daniel Atta-Tuffour, has appealed to the government to work out modalities to ensure that health training institutions benefit from the GETFund for infrastructural development.

He said most of the colleges were handicapped in terms of infrastructural development, and resources from the fund would help them address such challenges.

Mr Atta-Tuffour made the appeal at the 14th matriculation ceremony of the Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College to admit fresh students in Kumasi last Friday.

Matriculants

Three hundred and sixty-six students, consisting of 186 midwifery and 180 general nursing students, were admitted. Out of the number, 288 were females and 78 were males.

Currently, the school operates from two campuses at Kwadaso and Barekese.

The principal said due to the lack of funds, students at the Kwadaso campus for instance lived in four rented houses while those at Barekese resided at the school's own hostels.

Mr Atta-Tuffour indicated that the loan from the Bank of Africa which was used to finance the construction of the Barekese hostel was being paid through the school’s internationally generated fund.

Appeal for support

The principal, therefore, called on the SDA Church, parents, philanthropists and all well-meaning Ghanaians to come to the aid of the college.

He dispelled the wrong notion that the college was a private one, adding that it was a government-assisted institution accredited by the National Accreditation Board and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, and also affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He said those who successfully completed their programmes were awarded credible certificates to practise nursing and midwifery in any part of the world.

Mr Atta-Tuffour advised the fresh students to take their studies seriously and desist from any negative practice that would ruin their career.
