GTUC urged to spearhead training of youth in Science, Technology

The Chief Executive Officer of Rancard Solutions, a mobile software service discovery and delivery platform, Mr Kofi Dadzie, has challenged the Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) to spearhead the training of Ghanaian youth in the areas of Science and Technology.

He noted that due to the enviable records that the university had in those areas, it would be a step in the right direction to embark on such a journey to equip a lot of the youth in the emergence of new trends of technology.

Mr Dadzie was speaking at the 14th congregation of the GTUC in Accra, on the theme, “The role of GTUC in the utilisation of emerging technologies in higher educational institutions in Ghana.”

Impact

“As GTUC seeks to play a major role in the utilisation of emerging technologies in higher education, it can begin to consider a persisting educational system that is not boosted by all the gains of technology,” he said.

He recounted the critical role technology played in the daily lives of humans, stressing that there was the need for the training of a lot of youth in the field, especially the new trends, in order to make a long-term impact in the lives of the youth.

Call on youth

The technology expert also challenged students to make great impacts while in school, noting that it might not lead to immediate gains in the end, but it had a long-term effect.

Even though he acknowledged that those who might take the pain to implement such an idea would go through a lot of challenges, he gave the assurance that it would be worth it.

Using his company as an example, Mr Dadzie stated that he had to make a lot of trade-offs before succeeding, adding that, “Today, our core values at Rancard deeply reflect our experiences; excellence, integrity and reliability”.

Graduation statistics

In all, 123 postgraduate students graduated from the GTUC from its collaborative programmes with the Coventry and Staffordshire Universities, both in the UK and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

They graduated in programmes including Logistics, Finance, Oil and Gas Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering Project Management, Management in Information Systems, Global Business and Finance.

In his address, the President of GTUC, Dr Osei K. Darkwa, challenged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school, and said the school would remain committed to its core values by training and equipping a lot of the youth across the continent with the requisite skills and knowledge in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for its transformation.
