‘Provide St Vincent College of Education with vehicle’
Authorities of the ST Vincent College of Education in the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region have made a passionate appeal to the government through the municipal assembly to provide the institution with a means of transport to enhance academic work.
According to the Principal of the college, Dr Erasmus K. Norviemu-Mortty, the school only had a pickup vehicle and a mini bus which were inadequate to transport tutors from the school to regularly supervise over 200 students who were posted to various schools in remote communities in the region for their teaching practice.

The situation, he said, was seriously affecting regular supervision of the students in the hard-to-reach areas, as well as hindering academic activities.
“We respectfully make a special appeal through the Yendi Municipal Assembly and the Overlord of Dagbon to the government to intervene as a matter of urgency and purchase at least a 13-seater mini-van for the college to facilitate the transportation of our tutors who visit the students doing their teaching practice,” he appealed.

Dr Norviemu-Mortty made the appeal at the third matriculation ceremony of the college at Yendi last Friday where a total of 139 students were matriculated to pursue a 4-year Bachelor of Education programme.
He said in spite of being a young college, the authorities, with support from the government and their partners in Australia, were working hard to make the school a centre of academic excellence and ranked among the top colleges of education in the country.
In line with that, he indicated that “the college is instituting an annual Academic Award to recognise students who had the highest number of distinctions during the preceding academic year”.
Dr Norviemu-Mortty commended the government for supporting the college through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to enable some staff to upgrade themselves by pursuing Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programmes and also undertaking massive infrastructural development in the school.
The Principal of the Tamale College of Education, Dr Sulemana Iddrisu, who graced the occasion, advised the matriculants to conduct themselves and work hard to enable them to achieve higher academic laurels.
“Indiscipline will not only work against your progress as individuals but will affect your future as well,” he said.
