The 12-member board is expected to bring their experience to guide and direct the school to achieve excellence.

Excellence

The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Jane Sabina Obeng, in an address at the ceremony advised the board not to usurp the powers of the headmistress but to advice her in the discharge of her duties to help the school to excel.

She noted that it was mandatory for all SHSs in the country to have board of governors to assist in the management of the schools and expressed optimism that the inauguration of the board would mark the beginning of greater heights for the school.

She said considering the low level of discipline in some schools, there was the need for the board to help to urgently ensure that discipline was maintained in schools to enhance academic performance.

The Head of the Counselling Unit of the University of Mines and Technology, Mr Andoh Robertson, who spoke on behalf of the new board, pledged that the board would bring their experience to bare and make the necessary sacrifices to make the school better.

Teething problems

The Headmistress of the School, Mrs Sarah Baah-Odoom, stated that the school still faced teething problems including lack of staff bungalows and sports field for the school.

She said many of the students also stayed in the community making supervision difficult and called for boarding facilities for the school.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, pledged his support for the construction of a playing field and also presented jerseys to the school.
