First Deputy Speaker presents GH¢100,000 to Kensere community

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, has presented a cheque for GH¢100,000 to the chiefs and people of Kensere, a farming community in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The money is for the re-construction of a three-classroom block for the Kensere Methodist Primary School which was destroyed by a rainstorm six months ago.

Upon completion, the new block will have a three-classroom block, a library and a staff common room, as well as a head teacher’s office.

Handing over the cheque to the community, Mr Osei-Owusu, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bekwai, said the presentation was in fulfilment of a promise he made when he visited the community after the downpour.

Proper use of funds

Mr Osei-Owusu urged the chiefs and the people of the area to ensure that the fund was used for its intended purpose to the benefit of the entire community.

He advised the people to support the government as it continued to undertake development projects in the various communities in fulfilment of its campaign promises.

He urged the people to be law abiding and stay peacefully with one another irrespective of political, ethnic, religious and other affiliations and unite for the nation’s development.

The Chief of Kensere, Nana Fosu Kwabi II, who received the cheque praised the MP and the government and gave an assurance that the fund would be used for the intended purpose, indicating that members of the community would support the project with communal labour.

Background

The Kensere community has only one primary school the Kensere Methodist Primary School.  The school runs streams ‘A’ and stream ‘B’ due to its high population.
