Classroom block for Wood World Missions School

A ten-classroom kindergarten (KG) block, constructed at a cost of GH¢180,000 for the Wood World Missions School at Asokore in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been inaugurated.

The project, which was funded by the Power Center Church and Wood World Mission, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United States of America, is to promote quality education in the Asokore community and its environs.

The two-storey building is well-furnished with computers to help educate the pupils of the school in information, communication and technology (ICT) .

Dedication

Dedicating the facility at Asokore, one of the founders and the general overseer of Power Center Church and Wood World Mission,  Bishop Dr Mercy Wood, said their reason for building schools across the world was to offer the needy the opportunity to benefit from good education.

Touching on education, she said it was the bedrock of every nation’s development and that any educated child is a potential future leader of the nation.

Bishop Wood said the challenges she encountered as an orphan made her pledge to God that she would be a source of blessing to the poor and needy in society, pointing out that “we have made it one of our cardinal principles to continue to support the poor and needy in all parts of the world”.

Appeal to parents

She, therefore, appealed to parents, especially those in the Asokore community, to take their children’s education seriously to enable them to become great people in future and also to contribute their quota to the development of their country and society in general.

“Our outfit is going to make sure all the necessary logistics and stationery are provided to ensure that the children will enjoy their stay in the school. We are also asking parents to send their children to the school without worrying about anything, since everything is available for their use free of charge. We are also taking care of the salaries and wages of the teachers in addition to other commitments,” she added.

For his part, Bishop Wood’s husband, Bishop Dr Williams Wood, said their aim was to improve the school’s status to the vocational and technical level to ensure that before the children left  the school, they would have acquired skills to start their own job.

He said so far, the NGO had established two schools in the region, with one in Akosombo and the other at Koforidua Asokore.

Appreciation

The Krontihene of Asokore, Nana Sefa Baabu, expressed his gratitude to Bishop Williams and his wife for their benevolence and pledged to ensure that the people of Asokore benefited from the school. He urged the caretakers of the school to cultivate the culture of maintenance.

Awards were given to deserving personalities who supported the construction of the school.

The couple later donated items, including second-hand clothing, bags of rice, toiletries and detergents, at a cost of GH¢ 20,000 to the people of Asokore.
