Chinese firm presents teaching, learning items to Dzorwulu JHS

A Chinese construction and engineering company, China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE), has presented information and communications technology (ICT) equipment and furniture to the Dzorwulu Junior High School (JHS) in Accra.

The items included 50 tables and chairs, 30 boxes of whiteboard markers, 10 sets of desktop computers, a projector, a microscope, school laboratory equipment and other items.

They were presented as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the society in which it operated.

Promote learning

The company says the gesture is aimed at promoting education, especially the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics among primary and JHS students.

It also seeks to help nurture the young generation to become creative, curious and innovative citizens, capable of tackling challenges in their local communities.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the presentation, the Chief Accountant of CWE, Mr Zhang Xueli, said the project was one of many initiatives that they would carry out to promote learning across the country.

“When the youth are educated, then the country is educated. When the youth are strong, then the country is strong,” Mr Xueli stated.

“Children are motivated to study when they are provided with learning materials, and that improves their academic performances,” he added

Better country

According to Mr Xueli, education is the hope for the development of the country and will make the country better. He, therefore, urged the students to work together to put education first to help develop the country.

Appreciation

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Irene Yankson Neequaye, who received the items on behalf of the school, expressed optimism that if students were educated and supported with learning materials, they would be able to advance academically.

“Creating a conducive school environment through the provision of the required resources has always been the dream of every government; however, resource constraint has over the years served as a barrier to the realisation of this dream,” she stated.

Mrs Neequaye thanked CWE for the gesture and promised that the items would be put to good use and maintained well.
