Catch them young initiative- Radford university provides GH¢ 100,000 to support students
Radford University College has set aside GH¢100,000 to support its students with projects that are profitable to enable them to venture into entrepreneurship.
The initiative falls under the university’s Catch them Young strategy to empower its students to become young entrepreneurs.

“As part of the Radford’s strategy to catch students young and to develop their entrepreneurial abilities, the college has decided to set aside some seed money for students with bankable projects. This is one approach that Radford intends to support the development of young entrepreneurs,” the Executive Chairman of RUC, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong, said at the RUC’s fifth congregation and ninth matriculation ceremony over the weekend.

According to him, the university college would empanel a team of experts to review students’ project work to select the best among them, adding that “we would also invite banks to identify and support the students… to help them shape their concepts into full-blown business plans and to support them to roll them out”.
Moreover, he said, investors would be invited to see the project work of students, partner and finance them to create businesses out of the business proposals.
During the congregation, a total of 183 students who pursued various courses in Applied Science, Information and Communication Technology, Graphic and Fashion design, Medical Laboratory Technology and Business Administration, graduated.
Graduates/freshers
Nineteen students had first class; 96, second class upper; 64, second class lower and four, pass.
For the matriculation, 302 fresh students were formally admitted to the university college.
Nana Sarpong noted that RUC continued to make significant progress in its academic and social life as an institution.
He challenged the graduates to get out of their comfort zones and urged the fresh students to focus on setting a foundation that would propel them to success.
The President of RUC, Dr Paul Effah, said the institution would continue to take leadership positions in career-oriented and professional programmes such as fashion, graphic design, physician assistantship and medical laboratory technology.

“Radford will continue to become the home to the training of future entrepreneurs and professionals in Ghana and Africa.
“We remain unstoppable in our quest for innovative and creative approaches to the training of young entrepreneurs and professionals and aim at being counted among the best in Africa and beyond,” he said.
He called on the graduates to find role models and mentors and learn from them while calling on the matriculants to develop their minds, bodies and souls in order to make meaningful contribution to society and national development.
