Cape Coast schools receive hand sanitisers

The Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects, a not-for-profit organisation that has education and health as part of its areas of focus, has donated hand sanitisers to four senior high schools (SHSs) in Cape Coast in the Central Region.

Operated by the Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia, the foundation donated 9,000 bottles of hand sanitisers to the Mfantsipim School, Gomoa SHS, Mfantsiman Girls' SHS and Agona Kwanyako SHS.

In all, more than 80,000 bottles of hand sanitisers have been distributed to over 28 second cycle schools across the country as part of the broader vision to encourage hand washing and personal hygiene among students.

Responsibility

In an address read on her behalf by the Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan, Mrs Bawumia advised students to take responsibility for their health by practising basic hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases.

She said students must imbibe hand washing in particular and the use of hand sanitisers to prevent diseases.

The Second Lady noted that the donation of hand sanitisers was part of a broader initiative by her office to help create awareness among students of the need to take issues of personal hygiene seriously.

Observe personal hygiene

Mrs Bawumia indicated that following the recent outbreak of diseases in some second cycle institutions which resulted in the death of a number of students, she saw necessary to remind students to observe personal hygiene.

The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Jane Sabina Obeng, underscored the need for teachers to encourage their students to use the hand sanitisers as a way of protecting them against diseases.

She urged teachers to advise their students to buy the sanitisers when what they had got finished so that the quest for clean hands would not be a nine-day wonder.
