Anglogold Community Trust Fund donates to 10 schools
Ten pre-schools in the Obuasi Municipality and the Adansi North District have received teaching and learning materials (TLMs) which were donated under the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Community Trust Fund.
The beneficiary schools include the Nana Ponko Basic School, St Joseph R/C, SDA School, Bedieso K.G, Dadwene School and Len Clay Primary, all in the operational areas of the AGA.
The materials which were worth GH¢24,600 ABACUS comprised learning ABACUS, puzzles, wall charts, flash cards, clay dough, farm tools, crayons and medical kits.
Organisation’s mandate
The Sustainability Manager of AGA, Nana Ampofo-Bekoe, said the donation was made in line with the organisation’s mandate to ensure the delivery of quality education within its operational area.
He said to enhance the learning abilities and skills of children at the pre-school level, “the AGA makes contributions to the community trust fund to help the trust embark on its social responsibilities for the people of Obuasi and its environs.”
Nana Ampofo-Bekoe added that the trust fund had already embarked on some projects for the people of Obuasi this year and it was looking forward to doing more before the end of the year.
Already the Trust Fund has inaugurated a pre-school block at Nhyieso and a child welfare clinic at Amammom, all suburbs of Obuasi.
The sustainability manager said the trust fund was looking forward to providing a 20-seater water closet facility for the people of Apitikoko and mechanised water systems at Anyimadukrom, Kwabrafoso West, Dadwene and Obuasi Senior High. The projects are estimated to cost GH¢452,586.75.
Call for support
He called for support from the people of Obuasi to enable the AGA to embark on more development projects.
A board member of the AGA Community Trust Fund, Nana Kwabena Ponko, said the trust fund was set up to help improve the quality of education and the lives of the people of Obuasi and its environs.
He said although AGA was not producing and currently under care and maintenance, it had kept faith with its people.
He encouraged headmistress and headmasters of the beneficiary schools to take good care of the items and use them for the intended purposes.
The Head of Human Resource for the Municipal Education Directorate, Mrs Grace Oppong, expressed appreciation to the management of AGA for the TLMs.
She said over the years, the trust fund had helped in the improvement of the educational standards of people in Obuasi and urged the company to sustain it.
She said the teaching and learning materials were essential since they would play significant roles to facilitate the transmission and acquisition of knowledge.
