Adobewora Community Senior High inaugurates board

A 13-member board of governors for the Adobewora Community Day Senior High School (ADOSS) in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has been constituted to run the affairs of the school.

The school, which is the first community day school in the region to inaugurate its board, has received massive commendation from the Regional Director of Education, Mrs Mary Owusu-Achiaw, touting it as timely and appropriate.

In a speech, read on her behalf by the Regional Head of Human Resource Unit, Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr David Oppong, at the inaugural ceremony at Adobewora last Saturday, she urged the board to ensure that all stakeholders played their role effectively and created a conducive atmosphere for quality teaching and learning.

She urged them to produce a school of excellence comparable to any first-class school in the country.

Board members

The 13-member board is made up of the Headmaster of the school, Mr Phillip Addai; the Regional Director of GES, Mrs Mary Owusu-Achiaw; the District Director of GES, Mrs Juliana Essel-Cudjoe, and the interim Chairman of the board, Mr Joseph Frimpong.

The rest include representatives from the office of the Director-General of the GES, office of the founder of the school, the district assembly, old students association, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the teaching and non-teaching staff.

Interim Chairman

The interim Chairman, Mr Frimpong, on behalf of the members, thanked the government for the confidence reposed in them and gave an assurance that the team would ensure that the mission and vision of the institution were realised.

He charged the students to stay away from using and abusing hard drugs, especially Tramadol, which could derail their potential and jeopardise their future.

Challenges

The headmaster noted that the major challenge confronting the school was the deplorable road network in the community and recounted an experience where the school’s bus which was returning to the school with students on-board after a sporting festival in Kumasi, had to spend the night at Kwanfinfi, a nearby town, because it had rained heavily making the road unmotorable.

Another challenge he mentioned was the lack of accommodation for teachers and students and appealed to the government to consider building a dormitory block for the school.

He said some students lived as far as six kilometres away from the school, a situation that did not promote academic work.

Salary

Meanwhile 23 permanent and temporary staff members of the school who have worked for the past one year have not received their salaries. The situation is stifling motivation among the staff.

The Chief of Adobewora, Nana Kofi Boamponsem, assured the school of his continuous support in making it one of the best in the region.
