20 Ghanaians awarded Australian scholarships

Twenty Ghanaians have been awarded scholarships to study at the graduate level in Australia.

The scholarships will be funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) as part of its assistance to Ghana.

Seventeen of the beneficiaries will pursue master’s degree programmes in Agriculture and Food Security, Mining and Natural Resource Management, Public Policy, Health and Water and Sanitation, while the other three would pursue PhD in Agriculture.

The Australian High Commissioner in Accra, Mrs Joana Adamson, who announced this at the launch of the Ghana branch of the African Women in Leadership Network in Accra yesterday, said 16 others had also been awarded scholarships to pursue short courses in Australia.

The launch of the Ghana branch of the network is expected to further increase the participation of women in Australian affairs.

Mrs Adamson said the network was created as a platform for beneficiaries to share their knowledge and empower other women to attain greater heights.

She added that it was also to encourage women’s participation in leadership and decision-making roles to make a difference in the development of their home countries.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, stressed the need for beneficiaries of the scholarships to return home to implement measures to attain the required change in society.
