Hair extensions weave their magic

Is it Brazilian, Peruvian, Malasian, Indian or even Chocolate and   Ultimate? No, we are not discussing countries. These are the latest fashion hair extensions on our market.
Prices depend on quality and length with the most expensive being sold at GH¢1,500 down to as little as GH¢100. The hair ranges from a short 8 inches to as long as 40 inches.

Hair extensions, also called hair weaves, when well matched in colour and texture, and professionally applied by a competent stylist, are designed to mix in and match natural hair. They provide volume and add highlights or lowlights. With proper maintenance, some extensions can last up to a  year.

For the economy-minded, human hairs are called the “100% Human Hair”. These sell for between GH¢8 to GH¢50 depending on length.

Another type of hair extension is the synthetic hairs. These are less expensive and they go for as much GH¢50 and as low as GH¢7. They are made from various types of synthetic fibres.

At the Rawlings Park, a whole section of the market there has been dedicated to the selling of weaves where 12 sales a day is not uncommon. One of the biggest retail outlets has links with salons in town and therefore her wares are mostly lifted in boxes.
China supplies many of the weaves and a few of them come from Europe.

At Jix Cosmetics and Weavons at Adabraka, the manager of the place, who wanted to be known only as Beatrice, says her biggest market is with the systemic hair. This, however, is sharply contrasted by some market women at Makola where the Brazilian, Peruvian and Indian hair sell the most.

Auntie Naa Oye, who supplies weaves, said she had a big market for the “country branded” human hairs, adding that most of her customers were students, young workers and salons.

Although she says the “100% Human Hair” has a bigger market, more people are buying the expensive ones.

Whether they are received as gifts, bought for a weave to give you a lift or for a special occasion or party, hair extensions are a vital part of a woman’s wardrobe.

Beauty tips

If you like to wear wigs, and who doesn't. Make sure you wear them the way they were intended to be worn. For instance, a full head wig should not be pulled back into a ponytail. It looks fake, the idea of wearing a wig is to make it look convincing. Pulling it back disrupts it's natural pattern.

If you have fuller thicker lips, do not wear glossy shiny lipstick. It is not a complement to your lips. It makes them look greasy and much bigger than they are. When people look at you all they see is lips coming at them. A better choice would be a nice darker shade lipstick. Ask a cosmetic consultant to help you find the best selections.

Powder and foundation should and is designed to blend in with your skin tone. Do not wear anything that is lighter or darker than your natural colour. Wearing make-up that does not match your skin tone is as obvious as a zit on the tip of your nose. Find the right shade and learn to apply it properly, so that you will look your glowing best.

Tips for your hair 1

Salmon is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which aid hair and scalp health. Salmon is a magic fish for hair growth. While there are other fish that are also good for hair growth, salmon proves to be one of the best, according to dieticians.

Do not subject your hair to frequent, constant heating and drying procedures. Heat weakens hair proteins, no matter the gimmicks promising softness and shine, and constant heating and drying can lead to brittleness and fragility that cause hair loss that would not have otherwise occurred.
