Choosing the right corporate clothes

For this week and the next four weeks, the articles in this section will be directed at helping ladies with different body shapes identify and choose clothing that would suit their body type.

My focus is centred around the corporate area. Specifically, I will be examining your choice of office dresses and business suits.

I begin by first identifying what body shape category you fall into, listing the characteristics of that particular body type and the sort of dress and business suit that can sit well with it.

For starters, we need to know that women basically are pear, apple, rectangle, hour glass, or inverted triangle in the forms of their body shape.
Some slight variations may exist in terms of the type of shapes they possess, with some women possessing a combination of two forms.

The apple shaped figure

How to choose an office dress, business suit

Apple shaped ladies are typically ladies whose figures are broad on the upper body part and have a large tummy and no defined waist. It can be very tricky to dress ladies with this particular body shape. But all hope is not lost.

Before advising the lady as to the best suit to purchase for her shape, there are some few pointers I would like the ladies to bear in mind.

It is important to note that because you have a large stomach, you will need to avoid wearing clothes that tighten your mid-section as this will make your stomach appear larger than usual. It is perfectly okay to wear a belt, but note that you need to place it at the upper part of your tummy.

Dresses that fit your upper body part and flare below is a good option as it balances both your upper and lower body and make your body look symmetrical.

So opt for clothes that create volume for your mid-section—that is the stomach area and hip area, that way it evens out your overall physique.

Looking at this suit for an apple shaped lady, the main focus should be directed at creating space or volume in the front section of the suit.

The aim is to disguise the large tummy or draw attention away from it. This suit does exactly that.

The peplum styled cut is attractive and provides room for the tummy to sit under. The flare below the skirt provides balance for the overall figure.

It also draws the eyes down, drawing less attention on your large tummy.

Make a date with The Mirror next week as I examine the pear shaped lady and what office dress and suit will look good on her figure.
