Don’t allow dreams to be shattered - Arabic instructor tells inmates

He encouraged them not to allow their dreams to be shattered due to their current predicament during the Ramadan period but to be bold and pursue their dreams after prison life.

Mallam Gibril said this during a presentation of some food items including cartons of milk, milo, sugar, rice, bottled water and soft drinks by the school to inmates of the Koforidua prison.

Other items were ablution cans, praying mats (Sadjada), and second clothing.

The gesture was part of the school’s longstanding commitment to support the underprivileged in society, especially prisoners during this year's Ramadan fast.

Show of love

Presenting the items on behalf of the school, Mallam Gibril, who is also the Instructor of Arabic, said it was the priority of the school to show love to the inmates and restore hope in them during the Ramadan.

"We want them to know that even though they are in prison, they are still cherished and are still our brothers no matter what," he said.

Pillars of Ramadan

According to him, the Ramadan fast was one of the five pillars of Islam and the teaching of the Quran required all Muslims who were healthy to fast.

"We are here today to visit our friends, brothers, families who are in the prison to share with them food and pray for them and also share Allah's word with them. Our prayer is that even in Ramadan, when they are in prison, they will be able to gather some hope and joy in their hearts," Mallam Jibriel stated.

Receiving the items on behalf of the inmates, the Commander in charge of Operations of the Prisons, ASP Narh David Tawiah, expressed his appreciation to the Arabic school for its gesture and said the doors of the prisons were always open for individuals and groups desirous of supporting the inmates of the prisons.

One of the inmates, Mr Farouk Osumanu, expressed joy and thanked the management of the school for the support and prayed for the school to continue to support the needy, especially the inmates in society during Ramadan.
