A call to holy living (2)

They have been redeemed through faith in Christ and have come to Him. So he issues God’s demand on their lives: “You must be holy in everything you do” (1 Peter 1:15 NLT).

He adds, “Just as the Scriptures say you must be holy because I am holy”. Authentic or genuine Christian faith must always show itself in works of holiness that please God.

How are they to be holy? The Apostle Peter in this text gives some guidelines. First, we are to be holy so that we are obedient to the word of God which commands it, “Live as God’s obedient Children” (v. 14a).

Second, we are to be holy by not being conformed to our former ways of life – “don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own fleshly desires. You didn’t know any better then” (1 Peter 1:14 NLT).

Now you are a new creation the old things must go away (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Thirdly, we are to be holy in all our conduct – “you must be holy in everything you do” (1 Peter 1:15 NLT).

Fourthly, we are to be holy because God our father who gives us spiritual birth and makes us new creation is Holy. (1 Peter 1:15).

For Christians to be holy, negatively means to separate from the world and positively to be holy is to be separate for God – holy unto the Lord.

Holiness means separate from this world and separate for God. This text, indeed, is a crystal clear call to holiness.

Don’t you think that all Christians in our country should obey this command to pursue practical holy living?
