SHS placement extended to September 30

The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for the online placement of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates into senior high schools (SHSs) and technical institutes (TIs).

Instead of ending at midnight of September 8, BECE candidates have now been given up to the end of the month (September 30) to register.

The extension is to give opportunity to candidates yet to be placed into SHSs and TIs to do so. Out of the 150,770 candidates who were directed to do self-placement, 110,000, representing 70 per cent, were successful as of last Thursday.

A statement signed by the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh on the extension, assured parents and guardians that “no child who qualified to be placed in a public SHS/TI will be left out.”

At a press briefing recently, a Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum, directed parents of BECE candidates with problems with their placement to go to their district and regional education offices for solution.

He said there was no need for anybody to travel all the way to Accra to get their problems addressed.

“If you have any problem, go to the nearest education office in your district or region. The education offices have been told what to do so you don’t have to come all the way to Accra,” he said.

Out of the 427,000 students who qualified to be placed under the computer placement, 310,000 have so far printed out their admission letters from the portal and are ready for registration in the schools they have been placed.
