Second SHS placement begins tomorrow

The second placement of qualified candidates into senior high schools (SHS) and technical institutions (TIs) under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) will begin tomorrow, October 10, 2013.

A Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, said candidates to be considered under the second placement exercise would include those whose results were still being investigated by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on suspicion of involvement in examination malpractices.

Other candidates under that category, he said, would include those who were wrongly placed either by sex or school as well as irregular cases brought to the attention of CSSPS.

Mr Kyeremeh said candidates who scored low grades in the core subjects and, therefore, missed out in the first placement would also be considered in the second placement.

He said candidates are expected to have at least, grade Six in the core subjects to qualify to be selected for placement.

Mr Kyeremeh said from October 10, 2013, all successful candidates would be able to print out their admission letters from the Internet using a Ghana Education Service (GES) scratch card which costs GH¢4.00.

“The letter they print out will then be presented to the SHS they have been  placed in for admission,” he said, adding that the scratch cards to be used for accessing the Internet could be obtained from the nearest Agricultural Development Bank and its agencies as well as the ARB Apex Bank and its network of rural banks.

Mr Kyeremeh announced that all first-year students are to start reporting to school starting October 16, 2013.

The minister further directed all heads of SHS and TIs to declare vacancies not filled to the CSSPS secretariat lastest by October 16, 2013.

“It is expected that academic work will begin by October 19, 2013,” he said.
