Salo’s Memorial School marks 40th anniversary

Salo’s Memorial School in Accra has held its 40th anniversary celebration with a call on schoolchildren to work hard to be able to achieve their aspirations in life.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Doris Ashong, who made the call, noted that with hard work and dedication, children could achieve a lot in future.

At the ceremony, which was on the theme: “Forty years of excellent education, the children treated invited guests to various performances, including cultural dances, poetry recitals and choreography displays.

She said the school was upgraded to the Basic level in 2008 after operating for 30 years, adding that “next year we will write our first Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and we know that the Almighty God will see us through.”

“It was a nursery school which nurtured young children in the community for over 30 years and now they are mature young adults,” she said.

The Head of Monitoring and Supervision of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Accra Metro Office, Mrs Mabel Asigbetse, who was the Guest Speaker, said parents had a part to play in their children’s education and, therefore, asked parents to provide basic essentials such as books to enable their wards to have the peace of mind to study.

She encouraged proprietresses of schools to motivate their teachers so that they could provide better care for the children.

Mrs Asigbetse also urged teachers to give children good training and prepare lesson notes before classes.

Certificates were later presented to the Class Six and Kindergarten Two pupils who graduated.
