Over GHc20,000 worth of items have been donated to three beneficiary institutions by the Ridge Church School.
Recipients included the Children’s Department of the Ridge Hospital, the Mampong School for the Deaf at Mampong-Akuapem and the Shelter for Abused Children in Osu.
The presentation took place during the school’s Annual Harvest and Outreach Service in Accra yesterday, during which the school pupils placed their gift items on the altar amidst singing, dancing and merrymaking.
This year’s service which had the theme, ‘’Give cheerfully’’ was based on 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Importance of sharing
Speaking with the Daily Graphic, the Chairman of the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA), Mr Emmanuel Cornan, said the significance of the yearly event was to teach the pupils the importance of ‘giving to others,’ especially people in need and the underprivileged.
He said that every year, the school randomly selected some beneficiary institutions to show appreciation to God for the blessings they had received throughout the year.
According to him, teachers, parents and their children bring items and some money to donate to charity, as a demonstration of their gratitude to God.
‘’The ceremony is something we all love to participate in. We enjoy sharing what we have with the needy in society,’’ he added.
Addressing the audience, the headmistress of the school, Mrs Afua Dake, said that apart from the gift items, the children also brought money which was used to finance specific requests from the beneficiary institutions.
She added that this year, some parents donated medication and medical items.
The Board Chairperson of the school, Mrs Bertha Clottey, encouraged the children to continue sharing what they had with others in order to get more blessings from God.
She further advised them to appreciate all the blessings that God had bestowed upon them.
‘’When we give to others, we give to God. When we appreciate God by using the gift we have well, he multiplies our blessings,’’ she added.
