His performance was rewarded with a slot for the World Masters Champions Bowl, an international junior tennis tournament scheduled for Croatia from September 16 to 25.

“I am very happy that I have qualified for the World games. The organisers told us that only winners from various categories will go so I trained hard for this competition”, he said in a post event interview.

The two-day event, organised by Zion Management Africa Limited (ZMAL), saw seven other players picking slots for the international tournament. They included Caleb Aryeetey, Desmond Ayaaba, Johnson Acquah, Helena Hammond, Yvonne Noi, Portia Allotey and Edwina Kwartey.

While Caleb Aryeetey beat Aaron Armah 4-2, 4-1 in the Boys Under-12 event, Desmond Ayaaba secured a place for the Croatia tourney after finishing 5-4, 2-4, 10-5 against Richard Okine in the Under-14 Division.

The Under-18 event was won by Johnson Acquah who defeated Richmond Armaah 4-2, 4-1.

The girls’ event, which had no age category, was won by Helena Hammond with Yvonne Noi, Portia Allotey and Edwina Kwartey following in that order and qualifying for the world event.

All winners, runners-up and semi-finalists took home trophies and souvenirs from the sponsors which were Wilson International Sports Brand, SIC Life, Indomie Ghana, Melcom Group of Companies, Ocean Spring Mineral Water and Innolink Ghana.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr David Derhnick-Coffie, Chief Executive Officer of ZMAL, said he was excited the competition served the purpose of selecting players for the world tournament.

He expressed appreciation to the sponsors for their support.
