Opoku Ware M/A Basic/JHS to participate in World Robot Olympiad
The Opoku Ware M/A Basic/Junior High School in Kumasi would represent Ghana at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) from November 6-9, 2015 in Dubai, Qatar. The Qatar event is a prelude to a similar one in China scheduled between November 20-23.

Already, the school is being applauded for its sterling performance at the 2015 Robotics Inspired Science Education (RISE) event held in Accra, where the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF) honoured the school among other participating schools.
The Accra event was a science, technology and education programme which brought together young people all over the world to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills through challenging and educational robotics competitions.
Participating teams needed to create, design and build robot models that looked or behaved like human athletes.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Appiah Boateng, told the Junior Graphic that he was elated at the performance of his students and for enhancing the image of the school through robotics.
“I am not surprised at all because since we joined this competition in 2012, my students have won several laurels in the various contests,” he said, adding that he was very optimistic that the school would make Ghana proud at the international event.
The success story, he said, had not been achieved without challenges, citing among others, the lack of logistics and transportation to venues of the competition.
The Kumasi Metro Director of Education, Mr Alexander Attah-Asante, commended the school for its investment in shaping the talents of the pupils and putting Ghana’s name on the world map.
A research fellow at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who is also the organiser of the Boafo Robotic Foundation, Mr Kwame Boafo, charged the students to be on top of their academic lessons to warrant them joining the robotic clubs.
