Nneka Youth Foundation hosts annual Young Innovators Summit

The Nneka Youth Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has organised its annual Young Innovators Summit for about 200 selected schoolchildren in the Ningo-Prampram District in the Greater Accra Region.

The summit, which was held at the Afienya Development Centre, was on the theme: “Nurturing future leaders to actively shape society: Change is possible, you can lead it”.

It was aimed at developing young innovators in the society by inculcating in them the habit of reading.

As part of the event, an Inter-Group Presentation Challenge on Sanitation and Entrepreneurship was held for some children who were put into five groups.

In addition, a Junior Graphic Reading and Spelling Competition was held for nine basic schools from the Ningo-Prampram District.
At the end of the contest, the Afienya D/A Basic ‘C’ School emerged the winner of the competition with 45 points. It was followed by the St

Dominic School, which had 44 points, while the Rignbeck School placed third with 42 points. All contestants were presented with story books, exercise books and copies of the Junior Graphic.

Speaking at the event, the Marketing and Communications Manager of Ashfoam Ghana, Nana Yaw Ampem-Darko Antwi, encouraged the children to be advocates of change in their various societies.

“Try and take advantage of this exercise to learn new things in order to help change the environment around you. I encourage you to study hard and be the best in whatever you are doing. Nothing is impossible only if you are ready to change the circumstances around you”, he added.

After his presentation, the children asked questions on how they could bring change to their environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director for Education and Training at the National Youth Authority, Mr Kwesi Evans-Nkum, advised children to live morally acceptable lives because the success of society would depend on how they would behave.

Mr Evans Nkum advised all parents to allow their children to take part in such events since they could not be taught everything in the classrooms.

The Executive Director of Nneka Youth Foundation, Mrs Cecilia Fiaka, lamented the low turnout of children at the event and encouraged parents to support their children to take part in the programme.

She, however, expressed gratitude to the Junior Graphic, Ashfoam Ghana, Ghana Library Authority and the National Youth Authority for partnering the foundation to make the summit a success.

The children competed in various activities such as musical chairs and dancing.
