National Children’s Day observed in Accra

The Regional Director of the Department of Children, Greater Accra, Mr Sefah Alexander Boadu, has called on parents to ensure the well-being and educational development of their children.

He explained that when parents provided the needs of their children and monitor them constantly, delinquent behaviours such as  stealing, truancy among others could be prevented.

Mr Boadu was speaking during the National Children’s Day celebration which is celebrated on August 31 every year.

The celebration, which was on the theme: ‘’Education a right for all children’’ was organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in Accra.

About 120 pupils from the Tunga Islamic Community Basic School and the St Augustine Basic School participated in the celebration as they sang and danced to mark the day.

Mr Boadu said when parents are actively involved in the educational development of their children, it would encourage them to perform better in school.

On her part, the Basic Education Coordinator of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mrs Rita Offei Darko advised children not to live their lives on social media since it prevented them from concentrating on their studies.

Mrs Offei Darko pointed out that children learnt many things on social media which cause them to engage in bad behaviours and these negatively affect their lives and future.

She noted that when children chose their books over social media, they would excel in whatever they did since they would stay focused and determined.
