‘Monitor children’s use of internet, social media’
An Educationist, Mr Eugene Asante-Bekoe has charged parents to devote more time to their children’s upbringing in order to help check their access to the Internet and other social media platforms.
He said though the Internet and other social media sites were educative platforms, they also had the power to trap children to engage in social vices such as prostitution, gayism, lesbianism and drug abuse, hence the need for all to help shape the lives of the young ones.
Mr Asante-Bekoe made the appeal at the graduation ceremony of the Opoku Ware M/A Basic School at Santasi in Kumasi. It was on the theme: “Curbing the Patterns of Immorality among the Youth, the Role of the Society”.
He called on Ghanaians, especially adults to live exemplary lives for the young ones to emulate.
Mr Asante-Bokoe, who was also a former headmaster of the OWASS Basic School, lauded the authorities of the school for their dedication to their work which, he said, was clearly exhibited by the self-confidence, smart looking and the thought-provoking drama the students showcased.
The Headmaster of OWASS Basic School, Mr Henry Appiah Boateng, commended the graduates for their successful completion of basic school and urged them to go back into society and impart the knowledge that they had acquired.
He said the school’s performance had always been impressive and assured parents that they would continue to give the pupils the needed foundation so they could fit well in society.
Mr Boateng used the opportunity to call on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to support the ongoing expansion project which was currently at its foundation level but had been left unattended to due to the lack of funds.
According to the headmaster, the building, when completed, would accommodate the increasing number of students and also enhance teaching and learning in the school and the community.
