The theme for the occasion was: ‘Moving On’, and that symbolised the determination of the various stakeholders in the school to continue to strive for academic excellence.

Established in 2008, London Royals is a Cambridge Associate School which writes the Cambridge International Examinations and is, therefore, part of a learning community of over 10,000 schools in more than 160 countries.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Emmanuel Ampiaw, in a welcome address said results obtained by the students in their external examinations had helped elevate the school.

He commended the Board chairman and entire staff, especially the subject teachers who prepared the students for their exams.

The headmaster also commended parents and guardians for entrusting the education of their wards to the school and assured them that all necessary measures were being taken to equip the children with the appropriate knowledge and skills.

Mr Ampiaw stated that one of the major challenges facing the school was the delay in the payment of fees and pleaded with parents and guardians to settle the fees of their children and wards early to enable the school to efficiently carry out its programmes.

The Guest Speaker, Mr Chris Hasford, who is also the Headmaster of Yahweh International School, entreated the students to be optimistic, creative, read widely and learn positive things even while on vacation.

“Abraham Lincoln dropped out of school after a year in senior high school, but he read books on his own and became the 16th President of America,” the guest speaker pointed out.

Certificates were awarded to outstanding and graduating students. There were also prizes for neatly dressed and best behaved students, as well as the winner of the school’s 2016/2017 spelling contest.

A special award in honour of the school’s Founder, the late Nii Ashitei Ashitey, was presented to Ms Abena Gyabaa  Ameyaw-Cheremeh for being  the school’s Best Student among those presented for this year’s Cambridge exam.

The Chairman for the occasion, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East and Majority Chief Whip, Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, reminded the guests that out of the 16 countries in the sub-region, only five were English-speaking and urged parents to encourage their children to expand their horizon by learning other languages in addition to English.

The school choir entertained guests with a variety of songs. Other students also presented choreographed dances and a sketch on how to resist peer pressure and stay focused for a bright future.
