Kiddafest is here

This year’s Accra Internation-al Children’s Arts Festival, KIDDAFEST, has been launched on the theme: "My Culture Rocks".

KIDDAFEST gives children the platform to exhibit their creative talents in various forms including Dance, (Traditional & Contemporary), Drama, Music, Poetry, Comedy, Dance-Drama and Story-telling among others.

Activities lined-up for this year’s celebration include, inter-schools children’s street carnival, gospel rock show, Best of Fun World and Hip Life Theatre. There will also be a "Terry Bonchaka Night" in honour of  the late musician.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ms Dzifa Gomashie, who launched the festival, urged the media to help showcase more educative programmes for children.

She suggested that KIDDAFEST be replicated at the regional level to give more children the opportunity to unearth their talents.

The Deputy Executive Director of the National Theatre of Ghana, Mrs Amy Appiah Frempong, stressed  the need to include arts and culture in the curriculum of  basic schools.

She said, KIDDAFEST was a way of “acknowledging that our culture is important, unique and relevant”, and was aimed at entertaining and educating children.

Mrs Frempong explained that, young people needed to know that, arts did not only enhance understanding of the world around them, but also broadened their  outlook  on traditional values.

Nana Ama Fuakyewaa Ahwoi, a former host of Fun World, giving her personal experience, said KIDDAFEST had contributed to making her bold, confident and knowledgeable.

She advised parents to continue to support their children and help them to unearth their God-given talents.
